Lectio Divina

"Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me,
and I will listen to you.
And you will seek Me and Find Me,
when you search for Me with all your heart."

- Jeremiah 29:12-13

The classical practice of Lectio Divina--the prayerful reading of the Bible, the book Christians believe to be divinely inspired--is being rediscovered and renewed in our time.

Lectio Divina is an ancient, sacred method of prayer that was practiced by the Mothers and Fathers of the Desert and later in the monasteries of the East and West, and form of contemplative prayer.

Lectio Divina always begins with prayer to the Holy Spirit. The process is a sacred ciricle, and there are four moments around this circle:

  • reading in the presence of God
  • reflecting
  • responding with spontaneous prayer
  • resting in God beyond thoughts and particular acts of the will.

In this practice, we bring the Eternal Word into our being of silence and deepen our union with Divine in a sacred communion.

Today's reading:

He sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters.

- Psalm 18:16
